It all started with an amazing Lacoste show – one of the coolest events during this season – at a venue graced with daylight and with the most fashionable crowd in and out of it! The looks were statement, the logo was fun and omnipresent, and the vision was closely related to the spirit of the Olympic Games. Creative Director Felipe Oliveira Baptista dressed up his models like champions and he is also going to dress the whole French team in 2016!
The next impressive show of the day was Herve Leger; the brand was celebrating its 30th anniversary and that meant lots of memorable dresses from its history – all rendered in white – for the finale of the show! The mood was festive and, as it was expected, the team from the Max Azria Group got rather emotional backstage! Creative Director Lubov Azria talked us later about the new exquisite styles with amazing motifs and the innovation going on regarding the so-called ‘bandage dress’!
Mara Hoffman was fabulous too with cool motifs such as the clouds, the rainbows, the palm-trees and the florals; ideas derived from the natural setting. The catwalk was decorated with bundles of wheat, girls were wearing headbands covering their forehead, and the colors were softer but not completely subdued. The ethnic influence she is known for was less literal, yet there were enough statement pieces of this kind. It was all about fluidity and freedom! I was seating front row, so I could better appreciate the great quality and the appeal of these cloths!
Francesca Liberatore – the Italian designer who was last season’s winner of the DHL Exported competition in collaboration with IMG – presented a way more mature collection, yet it was still fun and playful! Neutrals were dominant, but you could also see some wonderful floral motifs and touches of orange which is definitely one of the colors for SS16!
Frankie B Hollywood was also a nice surprise with womenswear and menswear in denim, leather and metallics, featuring tie-dye motifs, pleating and fringes. Cool layering, unexpected volumes and some eye-catching distressed denim pieces – I loved the fringed shorts – were basics parameters of the collection along with feel-young eveningwear. The biker-jackets and vests were real investment pieces with a twist, and the high-waisted jeans alluded to the 80’s in an unpretentious way!
Later, I stopped by the Boy Meets Girl Party at Soho House’s new intimate club, to listen to live music from talented new performers and of course support the cause Stacy Igel – the founder of the brand inaugurated through this event. The night also included dinner at Catch and drinks at Tao downtown with some amazing close friends! I’m still wondering how I manage to wake up early the next morning to catch up with you through Fashionality and attend the very first show of the day! And you know, I never drink coffee to do so!
Love!!!
