Over the last seasons, we were embracing fabulous flats as the source of comfort even in the most dressed-up of looks. Then we fell in love with kitten heels which are even more beneficial to the health of our feet. Long forgotten platforms – especially block-heel sandals are quietly coming back, so feel free to wear them on special occasions covered with the flowy fabric of an evening gown and creating the illusion of a longer frame.
Trendsetting Designers
Giuseppe Zanotti includes some classics in their collection, along with other designers such as Christian Louboutin, Gucci, Aquazurra, Miu Miu, and Prada. Saint Laurent is offering a tribute version of the platform sandal, and Vetements insists on designing platform boots. Are you ready to walk again on way over 5-inch heels?
Pay Attention To
The level of comfort they are offering you is very important. Heels feel shorter due to the platform structure, yet platformed toes moderate your balance, and often push you to the front. You definitely need to line the toe sole with a rubber film so that you don’t slip. Opt also mostly for buckled strap sandals that safely hold your feet in place. Platform mules are more dangerous for example. Platforms give your looks a 70s retro feel, so carefully pick your clothes, so that your outfit doesn’t seem to be dated.
Fashion Shifts
We swap trends very often and this has to do with the phenomenon of people seeking instant gratification and getting bored easily. Shifting from flats to platforms, and from slim soles to thicker ones requires you to buy more. The faster trends change, the further market grows. Trends boost consumption. Don’t get swayed by the market’s whims. If not in the position to buy a new pair of platforms right now, dig into your mom’s or grandma’s closet, or the shoes you last wore 5 years ago. Trends are recurring and you should be able to recycle!
