Prabal Gurung FW23: Beauty in Transition

The Prabal Gurung FW23 collection took inspiration from the enchanting patterns of butterfly wings. These designs magnified onto asymmetrically draped dresses and woven into sweater designs.

Gurung’s recent silent retreat brought him closer to a butterfly, symbolizing the allure of fleeting beauty. This motif adorned belts with lengthy sashes and embellished blouses.

The collection celebrated a mix of western and eastern style, effortlessly merging contrasts – hard with soft, and masculine with feminine elements. Belts with sash details refined the tailoring of pants.

Highlights included metallic lace slip dresses paired with long coats, cropped tops, faux fur and leather outerwear pieces in bold hues and an intricate combo of separates in each look.

The audacity extended to a cropped tuxedo jacket and a bold ensemble featuring a silk blouse paired only with briefs. The designs came alive with vibrant colors and diverse patterns, complemented by abundant jewelry.

Amidst the vividness, a pristine coat dress stood out, matched with a half-skirt, and a draped ivory dress showed a hint of black lining.

Gurung’s historical maximalism evident in his eveningwear and daywear, took a subtle turn, hinting at evolving aesthetics.

For a night-out, the looks were as eye-catching as those proposed for daytime. Asymmetries, layering, and a mesmerizing palette alluding to a butterfly-filled universe will modernize our wardrobes for good.
