For Spring/Summer 2014 Felipe Oliveira Baptista created a Lacoste collection which brings about a much more sophisticated and far looser version of the sportive style. Charmed by the major principles of minimalism but equipped with experimental mood, the designer presented us – in a packed space at Lincoln Center during MB Fashion Week – structured looks diluted smartly with lightness and transparency. He’s a master in geometrical shapes and forms which look clean but never strict and absolute. There is plenty of room for self-expression, movement, and cool detailing.
His palette included many flattering neutrals as well as some statement colors such as royal blue, forest green, and blush pink. White is always there as a heritage color underlying the idea of clean design. Paneled and framed shapes as well as contrasts endorse the sportive nature of the Lacoste collection while transparencies and some flowing fabrics elevate it into a whole proposal for great urban chic style and avant-garde wearability! We loved both menswear and womenswear and that was common consensus among those who attended the show. To learn more about the designer, please check our interview with him, one year ago, in NYC!
