The last day of the shows is always sensational, full of big names on- and off-catwalk, and a collective finale show at Lincoln Center with other smaller designers aspiring to conquer the global scene.
At Ralph Lauren, the Western-themed collection tapped into the brand’s heritage in a very cozy and easy-to-wear way that every urban female creature would love to adopt. Warm and luxe knitwear, fringed and shearling-decorated pieces, shawls, scarves, and ponchos were all wrapping the body tenderly in delicious shades of cream and brown. The Navaho spirit along with some Victorian elements (quite popular for FW15) extended into a small selection of eveningwear, especially a maxi lace dress and a gown with similarly-themed beaded motif. Ralph also suggested for the evening a series of simple but smartly-designed long dresses as well as tuxedos and formal pantsuits, all in black! As we all understood throughout this fashion week, black is back, and Ralph is definitely a proponent of the trend! For me a black leather 3-piece suit from this collection was a real fashion statement!
Couple of hours and blocks later, J.Mendel represented the fearless way of creating opulence in our days, using luxe fur, and embellished, sequined fabrics. Sexy and sleek evening gowns with cut-outs, draping and mishmash, metallic shine, key-holes, high slits and plunging necklines were part of the overall and ongoing 70’s trend, and quite reminiscent of Gucci offerings during Tom Ford’s groundbreaking tenure. It was again the Studio 54 glamour-diva behind this collection, as it is the case with many other designers for FW15. Lingerie-like details and materials, less extravagant furs than those created by the house before, lots of black, red, and white, a major Saint Laurent influence, geometry and fringing, made up a very irresistible collection. That woman is definitely an attention-getter!
Finally, at the Art Hearts collective show of designers that support research for AIDS, sensuality peaked with some really daring young, upcoming and global-career-aspiring designers who made their own stylish contribution to the cause. Mister Triple X who sent down the runway men wrapped in all sorts of harnesses, Li Jon with seductive mesh/knitted dresses and MT Costello with super-see-through dresses and an almost naked dude on the catwalk, were the most provocative of all. But I also saw some beautiful dresses by Mimi Tran, Walter Mendez, and Hallie Sara. After all these, I really wanted to indulge into a romantic dinner and celebrate the finale of the NY Fashion Week with my hubby. He really supported me a lot throughout these ultra busy days, and what we actually achieved is definitely the result of happy-couple team effort!
