We love collections that are deeply expressive and personal and in this case we are talking about the Brandon Maxwell Fall/Winter 2022-23 Collection. The designer pays homage to his grandmother, the woman who inspired him to work in fashion, who owned a boutique. He is being nostalgic as reflected in clothes that allude to past decades and a classic 50s look.
Crinkled satin is used in dresses, skirts, and stoles for a perfectly undone feel, one that looks effortless. This season he opts for a romantic look instead of his signature high-octane glamour.
He taps into family memories and cozy elements. A chenille top, dress, and jacket used in different looks look like being inspired by homey interiors. Cable-motif jacquards are also reminiscent of intimate home decor.
As part of this retro universe, he creates ultra-chic and somehow geometrical evening & day-to-evening looks graced with pleated skirts at tea length. Built-in bustier or corseted bodices enhance structure making for figure-flattering items.
Still, glamour and larger-than-life elements are part of the designer’s vision. Mini-length hems are combined with over-the-knee suede boots while dramatic sweetheart necklines can’t pass unnoticed.
Tall-collar jackets and coats can be combined either with dresses or distressed vintage-wash jeans for a youthful effect. A double-collar biker jacket and a trench coat are also attention-grabbing.
Elegance and heritage reign supreme in this collection. Many waistlines are accentuated with an extra-slim grosgrain bow belt. Antique white, cream, black, and caramel brown make up the designer’s palette, meaning neutrals that stand the test of time and mix & match.
As always all garments are meticulously and artfully made in the USA, as the designer honors his roots and is known to be a perfectionist with a cause.
