Christian Siriano‘s FW23 runway show at New York’s Gotham Hall presented a 56-piece collection inspired by the iconic Audrey Hepburn. Dubbed “Audrey Hepburn’s rose garden at midnight,” the designer gave a darker and more alluring twist to the timeless elegance associated with the famous actress.
The collection featured garments such as a vibrant yellow dress with a bubble hem and puff shoulders, a uniquely cut tuxedo jacket paired with tights and a distinct saucer hat reminiscent of Hepburn’s style in her role as Holly Golightly. A photograph of Hepburn dressed as this character welcomed each attendee, setting the theme for the evening.
The venue was adorned with a luxurious mix of pink, purple, and white roses, emphasizing the floral inspiration that permeated the clothing through graphical rose prints and decorative rosettes. Siriano’s commitment to creating a magical escape was evident, as he utilized the runway to display his artistic prowess.
Focused on evening wear, Siriano’s business strategy aligns with his glamorous showmanship. However, within the collection, it was the more understated pieces that stood out. While Siriano’s flair for the dramatic is renowned, the looks with fewer embellishments conveyed an effortless movie star quality akin to Hepburn’s charm.
The yellow dress and the LBD with lapel or deep V-neck number, neither simple nor dull, managed to strike the perfect balance of sophistication.
And as expected, Siriano’s show celebrated size diversity and feminine empowerment, delivering a presentation that was not only visually stimulating but also inclusive and captivating.
