Expressive, full of bursting talent, warmness and ingenuity, the ultimate classic of our century and rebel of the previous, still a kid playing around fabrics and leathers in a mature way, Jean-Paul Gaultier, arrived in Athens as the honorary guest of the 11th French Film Festival (as reported live yesterday on our twitter feed). He was the one who selected the movies for this festival and he also presented a documentary, about himself and the preparations the day before one of his fashion shows, by the French director Loic Prigent. Many of his fans, including me since I was 10 years old, were waiting to see him inside the French Institute in Kolonaki Athens. Photographers was fighting over the best view, while stylish people from the world of fashion were coming as closer as possible in order to look at him in detail. He was very friendly – he is in fact, because he visits Greece very often, especially the island of Mykonos – and he wanted to talk to his audience who came to honor him. He was given an award for his contribution in modern culture and fashion by Minister of Culture, Mrs Angela Gerekou. Gaultier was behaving pretty much like a Greek. He was moving his hands to express himself, gave us a lot of smiles and talking in a loud voice. He is full of blowing energy. The documentary offered as a clear picture of how a professional looks like, how a perfectionist is, even if excellence is never reached according to his standards. Chez-Gaultier’s, he and his trusted, well-respected team, do miracles, even last minute ones. Adrenaline comes to its highest, a day before his miraculous job enters the limelight!
